YANOFSKY, Daniel (1925-2000). Canada’ first Chess Grand master. Eight time Canadian Chess Champion. Born to a Jewish family in Poland. He won his first Canadian Chess Championship in 1941 at the age of sixteen. He became the first grand master raised in the British Commonwealth. He appeared in eleven Olympiads.
