Arguably the Greatest Violinist of His Day
WILHELMJ, August (1845-1908). German violinist considered a child prodigy. He gave his first concert at the age of seven in Wiesbaden. He had a charming life and won many awards. Later in life he took an interest in violin making and teaching privately. In 1894, he was appointed principal violin professor at the Guildhall School of Music. Autograph letter signed, two plus pages, 10 Gloucester Road, Regents Park, 22 January 1897 to a Mr. Cummings. Wilhelmj states that a certain pupil does not come to this term to my lessons at the Guildhall School-he has not paid for the lessons I gave him during the last term...he was an exhibitioner at the school…I am so sorry to bother you-but my letter to the secretary some weeks ago has not been answered....P.S.
