WILHELM I (1797-1888). King of Prussia from January 1861 and first German Emperor from January 1871 until his death. He was the first Head of State of a United Germany. Manuscript letter signed to the General of the Infantry, Herwarth von Bittenfeld, Governor of Magdeburg. The King of Prussia offers thanks for long-term service and adds “a particularly gracious acknowledgment of the Grand Cross of the House Order of Hohenzollern.” In fine condition with central and horizontal folds.
