Medal of Honor (1882) – Surrender of Geronimo
WILDER, Wilber Elliott (1857-1952). U.S. Army Brigadier General, Recipient of the Medal of Honor while with the 4th Cavalry for the retrieving of a wounded soldier under heavy fire at Horseshoe Canyon, NM on April 23, 1882. He participated in the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, the Pancho Villa Expedition and WW1. In 1886, Wilder was a key figure in negotiating the surrender of the Apache chief Geronimo. Rare, typed document signed, one-page, West Point, N.Y. December 16,1896 on the letterhead. Headquarters U.S. Military Academy, The Commandant of Cadets. Special Orders NO.201. “I Under the provisions of paragraph 97, Academic Regulations, leave of absence until January 3, 1897, is hereby granted 1st Lieutenant Wilds P.
