WARHOL, Andy (1928-1987) Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1928. In 1945 he entered the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University). Upon graduation, Warhol moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist working for several magazines including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and The New Yorker. The 1960s was an extremely prolific decade for Andy. He created many paintings that remain icons of 20th-century art, such as the Campbell’s Soup Cans, Disasters and Marilyn’s. At the start of the 1970s Andy Warhol began publishing Interview magazine and renewed his focus on painting. Works created in this decade include Mao’s, Skulls, Hammer and Sickles, Torsos and Shadows and many commissioned portraits. Firmly established as a major 20th-century artist and international celebrity, Andy Warhol exhibited his work extensively in museums and galleries around the world. Very scarce 3”x5” card bearing a wonderful genuine signature of Andy Warhol. Out of 156 items listed on eBay of Warhol, only one 3”x5” card is available at $925 and it is a poorly attempted forgery. Of the 156 items signed by Warhol listed on eBay only 31 appear to be genuinely signed. Beware of the many limited edition prints of 200 copies signed by Warhol. They are not hand signed and are listed at auction starting at 99 cents or selling for $149.00. None contain genuine hand signed signatures. Our 3”x5” has a signature that measures a whopping 4.75” long. In choice condition.......................$475.00
