Scarce AMQS from The Crucible WARD, Robert (1917-2013) American composer, best remembered for his English language opera “The Crucible.” This opera was based on the 1953 play by Arthur Miller. The play won both the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Music and the New York Music Critics Circle Citation. This play was inspired by the McCarthy witch hunt of the 1950’s. The Crucible was one of the most performed operas by an American composer. Three bars of music from The Crucible where the composer has also written the famous words from the opera: “Jesus, my consolation, The do I worship.” and signed in full by Robert Ward.
