1928 Named the inaugural Fighter of the Year

TUNNEY, Gene (1897-1978). American professional boxer who competed from 1915-1928. He held the World Heavyweight Title from 1926-1928. Inducted into  the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.  Uncommon typescript from the Brotherhood Week, 1950, on a 3.5”x5.5” card.  “If we cannot build peace in our neighborhoods, how can we expect peace among nations?”  On the other side of the picture: “ if we build attitudes of brotherhood and good will in our homes and neighborhoods, we shall have the satisfaction of knowing that  we are giving boys and girls the ability to get along with all people, Surely that is one of the greatest contribution we can make, both to our children and to the peace of our hate-torn world.” Signed, Gene Tunney.
