VON TILZER, Harry (1872-1946). Very popular songwriter born Aaron Gumbinsky. He played the piano and wrote tunes for burlesque and vaudeville. His 1900 number “A Bird In A Gilded Cage” became one of the biggest hits of the age. VonTilzer became one of the biggest known Tin Pan Alley songwriters. In 1902 he formed his own publishing company where he was soon joined by his younger brother Albert.
