THOMPSON, Leon “Whitey” (1923-2005). American criminal, bank robber. Former Alcatraz prisoner. Released from Alcatraz on Oct. 25, 1962. His claim to fame is he is one among a handful of men ever to be released directly from Alcatraz to San Francisco. His book, Last Train to Alcatraz An Autobiography, wrappers 9th Printing 1991 380 pages with interesting photographs.
