TAYLOR, Zachary (1784-1850). The 12TH President of the United States (1849-1850). Document signed, one page “Appointment of a U.S. Marshall” Washington, D.C., May 9, 1849. Countersigned by the first Secretary of the Interior Thomas Ewing. Embossed seal at the lower left. President Taylor, two months after taking office appoints Anthony Roberts a Marshall of the United States for the eastern district of Pennsylvania. Taylor’s signature is extremely dark and bold. Folded with minor splits in some folds, repaired otherwise in very good condition. Presidential documents signed by Taylor are not common as he only served sixteen months as president. Not long after signing this document he was out of town throughout the summer months travelling the north eastern part of the United States. During his travels, much of the time he was plagued by illness and had to return to Washington in September 1849. He died ten months later...................$4750.00
