Great Israeli Artist
SZYK, Arthur (1894-Sept. 13, 1951) Polish American miniaturist and cartoonist and illustrator. As a child of six years old he started drawing. During WWI he was a highly decorated soldier who fought with the Russian Army before escaping. He is best remembered for his miniature book illustrations and illustrating many Israeli postage stamps. Some of his original works include “George Washington and His Times” (1931) which hung in The White House under the FDR administration. Another is his “Visual History of Israel” commemorating the Birth of the New Nation. (1948). D.S., Personal check March 29, 1947, drawn on the First National Bank and Trust Company, New Canaan, Connecticut and accomplished in Szyk’s hand. Made payable to the New York Telephone Co. in the amount of $28.84. Signed in full, some cancellation holes with one just touching the “A” in Arthur. Rubber stamp cancellations.
