SUTRO, Adolph (1830-1898). Born to a Jewish family in Germany. He became a mining engineer and politician. Served as the 24th Mayor of San Francisco. He designed and constructed the Sutro Tunnel for the Comstock Lode in Virginia City, Nevada. Choice bank check on the San Francisco, California Wells Fargo & Co for $30 made payable to Mrs. Pulvermacher. Check exhibits a Bank/Paid stamp dated July 10, 1890.
