STALAGMITE. The source of this word is the Greek word stalassein, which means to drip. The word refers to mineral deposits that form in caves. It is usually calcium deposits formed on the ceiling of a cave by the slow dripping formed over a very long period of time. The main attraction of a cave is the exquisite stalagmite formations.
