Inventor of the “Bazooka”
SKINNER, Leslie A. (1900-1978). Methodist Minister, Col. U.S. Army. The U.S. Army was in need of an infantry anti-tank weapon. Skinner who worked with rockets, invented the Rocket launcher. M1A1 Bazooka. It was first issued June 14, 1942. He named the weapon after an odd-looking musical contraption created by the comedian Bob Burns. The first “Bazooka’s” were shipped in 1942 to U.S. Troops who landed in North Africa. When the German’s captured a “Bazooka” they copied the design and produced their own version “Panzerschreck” (Tank Terror.) General Eisenhower said that the Bazooka, the Atom Bomb and the Jeep won WWII for the Allies.

The letter is in response to a collector’s request to send a signed photograph. This is the first handwritten letter of Skinner we have seen. In fine condition....$395.00
