The Very Scarce Signature of The First Black PGA Golfer
SIFFORD, Charlie (1922-2015). American pro-golfer. First black American to play on the PGA Tour. He broke the color barrier in golf. He’s called “Golf’s Jackie Robinson.” He first attempted to qualify for a PGA Tour event in 1952. He used an invitation from boxing champion Joe Louis. Sifford was subjected to threats and racial abuse. It took until 1961 to be able to join the PGA Tour. He won many awards and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame (2004) and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2014). Tiger Woods acknowledged that Sifford paved the way for his career. Most unusual color flyer for the cover of his book “Just Let Me Play.” Boldly inscribed on his portrait: “To Marv Charlie Sifford.” A very desirable item in mint condition.........$135.00
