SHUGART, Alan (1930-2006). Inventor of the computer disk drive. His company was the largest independent manufacturer of disk drives. In 1996 he launched an unsuccessful campaign to elect “Ernest” his mountain dog to Congress. He wrote about this experience in a book Ernest Goes To Washington.
