The Stocking Strangler and Granny Killer
GARY, Carlton Michael  (1950-2018). African American serial killer who was convicted of the murders of three elderly woman in Georgia between 1977-1978. He is suspected of killing at least four more.  He is also believed to be responsible for several more murders in Albany and Syracuse, New York.  Between the ages of 14-18 he was arrested numerous times for robbery, arson and assault. On August 22, 1977 he escaped from prison by sawing through the bars in his cell. In 1978 he was arrested for robbery and sentenced to 21 years in prison. He escaped in 1983 and was caught on year later. During 1977-78 he raped, beaten and strangled to death elderly women with a nylon stocking. He was known as The Stocking Strangler.
He was convicted and sentenced to death in August 1986.  The United States Supreme Court refused to hear Gary’s appeal. On March 15, 2018 he did not accept a final prayer, nor did he make a final statement. He was executed by lethal injection.
While in prison Gary spent much of his time writing to his wife who also visited him often. Gary was an accomplished artist and spent a good deal of time making crochet items such as dolls, hats, clowns, roses, frames for original drawings and much more.

1).  Original black ink drawing of the face of Bob Marley.  Measures 9”x12” in good condition except to remnants of tape along the edges and a small piece torn from top right corner which can easily be matted out or simply trimmed. Signed “C.M. Gary.”...............................$95.00



2). Original black ink sketch of a full length pose of Michael Jackson dancing. Skillfully drawn it  measures 11”x15” and is in good condition. The name “Michael” is attractively written to help identify the drawing. Signed “C.M. Gary.”........................................................$110.00



3). Original hand made and colorful hand drawn anniversary card inscribed to his wonderful wife Debra.  Measures 4”x9” four panels.  The front cover he has drawn a large fish saying “Hooked on a Forever Love.”  On the third panel is a lengthy sweet message eight lines long signed “Mike” in red ink adding a drawing of a heart. On the final panel he writes:  “Soft Touch C.M. Gary ’92.”   All of Gary’s cards sent to friends and relatives read “Soft Touch” on the last panel.............$65.00







4). Original sketch book, 9”x12” containing 12 pages, each numbered by Gary. Each page has a large sketch by Gary of flowers, teddy bears, woman, birds, football player and more. The cover of the album Gary has written and signed with his scarce full signature: “Art By Carlton Michael Gary.”...............................................................................$125.00









5). Original crochet panel in several colors 9”x12” made by Gary while in prison. He spells out “Discover Wild Life Have Kids.” He has added a Teddy Bear (one of his favorite animals) a Giraffe and an Elephant along the edges with tree branches and leaves.  Would look fabulous framed. In excellent condition. Comes with a copy of an Inmate Contraband Disposal Agreement sending a woman in Tampa Florida two knitted dolls. This panel was sent to his wife in Phoenix City, Alabama......$35.00



6). Original pair of handmade crocheted colorful vases with flowers. Both vases holds one pink flower.   Tastefully done, each vase measures eight inches tall not including the size of the flowers. Excellent hand crafted work by the serial killer. Comes with a copy of an Inmate Contraband Disposal Agreement sending two knitted dolls to a woman in Tampa, Florida. This pair of vases was sent to his wife in Phoenix City, Alabama............................................................................$45.00



7). A collection of original six crocheted items hand made by Carlton Michael Gary during the 1990’s for his wife. He made these items while in prison in Jackson, Georgia.  The collection, quite colorful consists of a beret type hat, a tissue box with two birds on a bird house and four hearts, three red which measure 7”x7” and the other one is white.  A larger red and pink heart measures 10”x10”. All six items in very good condition. Together with a copy of an Inmate Contraband Disposal Agreement sending two knitted dolls to a woman in Tampa, Florida.....$95.00


















8). Original handmade crocheted doll which has the likeness of “Goofey.”  Made by Charles Michael Gary for his wife while he was in prison in Jackson, Georgia.  In a sitting position the doll measures appx. 12” tall. Extremely colorful, well made and displays very well. In very fine condition. 10). Autograph letter signed, one full page, July 12, 2015 to Butts County Clerk of Superior Court, Jackson, Florida.  Gary is requesting a copy of a court order available by the Freedom of Information Act for inmate Wilbur May a-k-a- Brandon Jones. Signed twice, once in printed form and the other in script.  Full signatures of C. Michael Gary are not common............................................................................$67.50
