Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade - Illustrator
SARG, Tony (1882-1942). Officer in the German Army until 1905. Started illustrating after leaving the Army. Came to the United States in 1915. He illustrated for numerous stories for the Saturday Evening Post, Red Book, Colliers Magazine, Parent’s Magazine and Cosmopolitan. Creator of Tony Sarg’s Marionettes. He created the monster balloon parades all over the United States. Author, illustrator of over a dozen children’s books. Original ink-wash, large size, measures appx. 15x18”. Depicts an old man dressed in an overcoat and hat walking in heavy rain with his dog on a leash trying to walk through heavy clay which is stuck to his shoes. Title of this sketch is “Clay is Soil!” Very boldly signed “Tony Sarg/38.” Written on the back in ink: “Tony Sarg $35.00 4/12/38. Also written is ink/wash for Parents Magazine. Wonderful item for framing.....................SOLD
