SAGE, Russell (1816-1906). American railroad financier, banker and congressman. As the originator of “put and call options” he greatly changed the way speculators played the stock market. He financed Jay Gould and made a vast fortune manipulating the stock market. He became one of the shrewdest of all the great financiers. He left a fortune estimated at $70,000,000. Stock Certificate for 100 Shares of the Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Co. 22 Oct. 1870 signed by Sage as V/P of the company. Countersigned by transfer agents.
