Three Great Yankee Pitchers
RUTH, Babe (1895-1948). Professional baseball pitcher and outfielder. In 1936 he was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is one of the first five inaugural members.
LONG, Dale (1926-1991) First baseman. Major League Baseball 1956 record hitting a home run in 8 consecutive games. As a Yankee, Long got his ring in the 1962 World Series. He faced the Pirates in the 1960 World Series as a pitcher.
GOMEZ, Lefty (1908-1989). Left-handed pitcher who played baseball (1930-1943) Five-time World Series champion with the Yankees. All star every year from 1933 to 1939. Elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. Fantastic cover commemorating 100 Years of Baseball. Cachet of a pitcher, batter, and catcher, First Day Cover. Affixed is a block of 4 Centennial of Baseball postage stamps cancelled Cooperstown, June 12, 1939. Hand signed by all three. Notations in ink on verso: “Babe Ruth autograph July 7, 1940. Vernon (Lefty) Gomez November 5, 1964. Kawanis Club Luncheon.” In pencil: “Purchased Charles Hamilton Auction.” Cover in near fine condition. Signatures all strong, Babe Ruth in green ink.....SOLD
