American Civil War Brigadier General in the New Jersey Militia
RUNYON, Theodore (1822-1896) Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was one of the first to respond to President Lincoln’s call for 757 men. He commanded a brigade that went to defend the capitol of our nation. During the first tattle of Bull Run he received a special commendation for commanding his division during the advance towards Manassas Junction. Fort Runyon named in his honor. Later he became Mayor of Newark, New Jersey. Fabulous ornate signature from the bottom portion of a letter adding: “Newark, N.J..
