Fastest Woman in the World
RUDOLPH, Wilma (1940-1994). First American to win 3 gold medals at a single Olympics (1960). At the time she was considered the fastest woman in the world. Amazingly as a youngster she had pneumonia, scarlet fever, and polio. By the time she was twelve she learned to walk without a leg brace. She was physically disabled much of her early life. Later she was one of the most highly visible black women in America and abroad. She is regarded as a Civil Rights pioneer. Excellent and scarce FDC honoring Wilma Rudolph with a fine colorful silk cachet of her running. Affixed is a US 15-cent postage stamp of Olympic 1980 runners.
