Rare Signature of Roxy
ROTHAFEL, S.L. (1882-1936). N.Y. Entrepreneur, theatre owner of Roxy Theater in NYC. Many movie theatres were designed by architect Rothafel..As an architect he built Radio City Music Hall, one of the greatest art deco structures ever built. It opened Dec. 20, 1932 featuring the Roxyettes. He was the impresario for many of the great movie palaces such as the Capitol, The Strand, Rialto, Rivoli and his self-named Roxy Theater in New York City. He was one of the greatest showmen of the 1920’s and silent screen era. Roxy is credited with many movie innovations including syncing orchestral music to movies in the silent screen era.
