Rare Cancellation of a Ship that was Sunk
ROBINSON, Jackie (1919-1972) Professional baseball player, he broke the color barrier starting at first base with the Brooklyn Dodgers in April 1947. Robinson was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Cover commemorating the Centennial of Baseball with a cachet of a baseball player on the mound waiting for a pitch. Affixed is a US 3 cent Centennial of Baseball postage stamp cancelled U.S.S. Perkins, OCT 19,1939. Addressed by a collector and hand signed by Jackie Robinson. The Perkins was a destroyer that was sunk during war time on Nov.29, 1943 because of a collision. Cover in V/G condition and the signature of Robinson is excellent.........$1450.00
