“Yes, I was at the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs”
RICKENBACKER, Eddie (1890-1973). He was the #1 top scoring fighter pilot for America in WWI. He flew with the 94th Aero Squadron and has 24 confirmed victories. Recipient of the Medal of Honor. He was an auto racer and winner of the 300 mile speedway contest at Tacoma in August 1916. In 1920 he built the Rickenbacker automobile. The first Rickenbacker cars were shown at the N.Y. Auto Show in 1922. Rickenbacker Motor Co. had 1200 distributors in the U.S. and sold 50,000 cars in two years. He was also Chairman of the Board of Eastern Airlines. Typed letter signed, one full page, on his name imprinted stationery, Mar. 11, 1968 to Leroy Edward Kohlbeck II of Colorado Springs. Nice letter in part: “..after a tour of several weeks throughout the Northwest in connection with the promotion of my autobiography... I was at the Air Force academy at Colorado Springs for just a few hours last fall... I am enclosing an autographed photo taken of me standing beside my Spad during WWI back in France in 1918 (not present).” Very fine condition with a wonderful bold signature.................................... $175.00
