RICHARDS, Laura (1850-1943). American writer of many juvenile stories, daughter of Julia Ward Howe. Best remembered for “Captain January”. Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize (1917). Autograph letter signed, one full page, 4/28/1895, Gardiner, Maine. She writes: “I do not ‘groan” at all over your pleasant note, because I was fourteen myself once: and I am very glad to sign myself Faithfully yours, Laura Richards”.
