Very Rare A.L.S. of George N. Pierce of Pierce Arrow Automobile Co.
PIERCE, George N. (1846-1910) Established in 1865 the George N. Pierce & Co. known for its Pierce Bicycles. Later established an automobile manufacturing company building the Pierce Arrow Automobile. The Pierce Arrow was a high quality automobile purchased by Hollywood celebrities and by two American presidents. The car was called The American Rolls Royce, the finest American car ever made. Extremely rare autograph letter signed on Pierce’s George N. Pierce & Co. Pierce Bicycles letterhead, Buffalo, New York, April 21, 1897. Pierce writes: “Dear Tom, Yours of 8th...I have been away from the city and am just home. I have sent your letter to your father he is in the manufacturing of flue cleaners & is located in the Jewett building Washington St Buffalo, N.Y so that any letter you send him to that address will reach him all right. I thought you.....had not heard of your going to N.Y. sorry your business prospects are not good but I do not know when....first the least little bit of an opening for you. I will do my best for you and if any chance is open, I will write you. Very truly your affect uncle Geo N. Pierce. Together with a two page autograph letter signed by William B. Pierce to “My Dear Son.” A very detailed letter being so sorry that his son is not well off. He goes into detail why things should have been better discussing mortgages, a gold watch and all the furniture....” Signed “Dr.. Wm. B. Pierce.” Of all the major pioneer automobile manufacturers, the signature of George N. Pierce is arguably the rarest. This is possibly the first a.l.s. to appear in the market.
