PHELPS, Anson (1781-1853). Metal merchant dealing in tin plate and heavy metals. Accumulated a large fortune. President of the New York Blind Asylum. He founded Phelps, Dodge & Co. in 1833 and acquired many mining companies in the American West.
Autograph letter signed, one page, New York, 9 March 1840. To John L. Graham. Fine financial content regarding the stock of Nat. Trust and Banking Corp. In part: “...will improve and that it will be for our mutual interest to defer selling any of it at present…” He continues: “…the Bank will do everything in there power to promote its object and to disappoint all its enemies.” Wring nice and dark, in fine condition..................SOLD
