OWENS, Jesse (1913-1980).  African-American Olympic athlete who won four gold medals in the Nazi-hosted 1936 Olympic Games. He defied Hitler disproving Hitler’s theory that blacks were an inferior race.  Owens received a standing ovation by 100,000 spectators.  Hitler left the stadium.  Portrait, B&W,  of Owens turning over the baton to teammate Ralph Metcalfe during the 400 meter run in the 36 Olympics. Measures appx. 3.5”x5” possibly cut from a magazine.  Owens has written across the portrait: “Best of Luck, Jesse Owens, 36 Olympics.”  A very desirable autograph that is becoming rather uncommon..................................SOLD
