Britain’s WW1 Official War Artist
ORPEN, Sir William (1878-1931) Irish artist working mostly in London. A successful painter of portraits for the well-to-do in the Edwardian society. His works of the war were stunning and horrific and still have the power to shock onlookers today. Autograph letter signed on his address imprinted stationery. 6th January 1928 he writes: “Dear Bland, I remember you well. What about Wednesday afternoon. I am free from 4.30 to 5.15 and shall be pleased to give any advice I am able to. Yours ever, William Orpen.” In fine condition..................$375.00
