One of the First Americans to be Officially Classified an Ace
O’NEILL, Ralph A. (1896-1980). American fighter pilot during WW1. He was among the first American aviators to be officially classified as an Ace. He was credited with 5 victories. He was awarded the DSC three times as well as the Croix de Guerre. From 1920-25 Col. O’Neill organized the entire military and civilian aviation service of Mexico. He built an airline New York, Rio & Buenos Aires Line (NYRBA) a 7800 mile run through hurricane zones in the late 20’s. He later lost his airline to Pan American, a smaller company. Typed letter signed, on his name imprinted stationery. One page, Jan. 20, 1975. To Mr. Richard Calow. In part: “Recently the Cross & Cockade friends sent me a photograph of me sitting on a Nieuport 28 taken on the front in 1918...” In fine condition.
