The Boston Red Sox won 5 of the first 15 Major League World Series. On January 3, 1920, Harry Frazee (Boston Red Sox Owner) sold his young pitcher-first baseman and outfielder George Herman Ruth to the Yankees for $125,000 in cash and a $300,000 loan. Just 6 months later Ruth as a member of the Yankees breaks the single season home run record he set with the Red Sox with numbers 30 and 31. Since then, fans of the Red Sox have endured nearly a century’s worth of misery known as “The Curse of the Bambino.” Talking about the curse as an ongoing phenomenon ended in 2004. Red Sox called Chester Nez and asked him to come to Boston and give a Navajo blessing. Mr. Nez agreed to give the blessing on the pitcher’s mound. That year the Red Sox beat the Yankees from a 0-3 deficit during the American League Championship Series. They went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals to win the 2004 World Series. There were many unsuccessful attempts to break “The Curse of the Bambino.” A Boston cap was placed on Mt. Everest and a Yankee cap was burned at Base Camp. Professional exorcists were hired by Father Guido Sarducci and it is said to have purified Fenway Park, Chester Nez’s Navajo Blessing did the trick and he broke “The Curse of the Bambino.” Very colorful Fenway Park, Boston baseball.
