Nobel Prize for Chemistry (1966)
MULLIKEN, Robert  (1896-1986). American physicist and chemist.  He is responsible for the early development of molecular orbital theory. During WWII he worked on the Plutonium Project, part of the development of the atomic bomb. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry (1966).  Block of 6 U.S. 8 cent Air Mail stamps depicting a portrait of Robert Goddard and a rocket leaving the launch pad. Signed by Mulliken across the stamps.
