Famous Magician & Intelligence Agent
MULHOLLAND, John (1898-1970). American magician, intelligence agent. He worked at the large style shoes. He ran the first magic workshop. From 1930, he was the editor of the magical trade magazine “The Sphinx.” Mulholland was a close friend of Houdini. His personal collection is owned by David Copperfield. Mulholland left “The Sphinx” in 1953 to work for the C.I.A. His book was published as “The Official CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception.” Very scarce typed letter signed on the letterhead of “The Sphinx” New York City, February 18, 1933. Interesting content, Mulhollad writes in part: “Legal action, according to our lawyer, can be taken against magicians who would say what you suggest and such action could also be taken against The Sphinx were we to publish it…..Well, anyway I have smoked my last Camel.” Tape stains along part of left and right margin (easily matted out). One tape stain running through half the center of the letter touching a few words. The person who received this letter wrote most likely to someone in his office: “Alice- Next to Thurston, John Mulholland is perhaps the best known magician in America. Do you want his signature? Ed.” The signature of John Mulholland is a gem. Anything signed by John Mulholland can be considered quite scarce..................................$250.00
