Eyewitness to the Hindenburg Disaster
MORRISON, Herb (1905-1989). American radio reporter, assigned by a Chicago radio station to cover the arrival of the Hindenburg in Lakehurst, New Jersey. He was the only reporter to witness the disaster. Best known for his dramatic report that killed 36 people. His words over the radio: “...it’s a terrific crash... smoke... fire... Oh, the humanity...” will not be forgotten in the history books. This was the first time that recordings of a news event were broadcast and also the first coast-to-coast radio broadcast. Very rare signed color photograph, measures appx. 2”x3”, head and shoulders pose, smiling. He began to write “Kindest regards” with a ball point pen but the ink did not adhere well to the glossy surface of the photo. He signed his name using a different pen. This is the first signed photograph of Morrison we have seen............ $150.00
