MICHAEL VII DUCAS. (1050-1090) Emperor of Byzantine Empire October 24, 1071 AD- March 24, 1078 AD. Authentic ancient gold coin with the Bust of Christ Pantocrator, wearing a nimbus crown, pallium and colobium, and raising his right hand in benediction. In his left hand is the book of gospels. On the other side is a portrait of Michael VII Doukas the Byzantine Emperor. His face is bearded, wearing a crown and loros, and holding labarum and globe cross. He resigned the throne on March 31, 1078, and retired to the Monastery of Stoudios. He died in Constantinople. The coin’s denomination is Scyphate, the size is larger than the U.S. quarter. It was minted between 1071 and 1078 AD at the Constantinople Mint. This coin is encapsulated in a NGC protective holder and rated at an impressive Xtra-Fine condition.
