- MASARYK, Tomas G. (1850-1937). First President of Czechoslovakia (1918-35). Upon
his country's independence in the Post World War I division of
Europe, Masaryk incorporated the principles of the 18th Century
Enlightenment and American Founding Fathers into the Czechoslovakian
Constitution. His influence and legacy, Stalinized during the
Cold War, has seen a resurgence since the collaspe of the Soviet
Union.
