RARE FLIGHT SUIT SIGNED BY FIRST MAN TO WALK IN SPACE

LEONOV, Alexei
(1934-   )  Soviet cosmonaut who made the first walk in space in 1965 aboard Voskhod 2. He also took part in the historic 1975 Apollo-Soyuz space test project.  Leonov is also an accomplished artist who has published books about his artistic works. A few of them were executed in space.

Offered is a collection of a high altitude flight suit and its components including the helmet and its detached olive green neck drape.  This VMSK-4-12 unit with four tags comprises of the orange outer suit for flights over water for visibility in case of a crash with the ZK-4 inner sweater, MK-4 component and inner VZK-4 dry suit liner and is  accompanied by the orange neck drape. This is worn over the TZK-2M thermal suit for warmth along with the olive green VKK-6ML, partial pressure suit with orange connection hose accompanied by VKK-6M storage bag plus life preserver units on either side. Dry suit three finger pilot gloves are also present. Comes in a large zippered olive green Russian flight suit bag having the correct stamped markings.  The flight suit comes with all the original Russian pamphlets indicating the teats that were made with original Russian stampings and signatures of those testing.  The original helmet is hand signed and dated “7.XII 93” by Alexei Leonov.  Leonov sold this suit privately before the Sotheby’s Russian Space History sale to offset the expenses for his trip to the New York sale. He agreed to sign the helmet as part of the negotiated price. A photo was taken of the Cosmonaut signing the helmet but there was movement so it is somewhat blurred. The photo accompanies this marvelous collection.  During this Sotheby’s sale his UNSIGNED  Voskhod 2 space suite sold for $225,000.  This suit, which has just a short description above, along with the signed helmet comes with at least nine other items that fit the suit that are not in the illustrations.  This entire flight suit collection would make a wonderful display on a mannequin in a museum or private collection .........SOLD
