Very Rare AMuQs From “Frasquita Serenade”
LEHAR, Franz (1870-1948). Austrian composer of Hungarian descent. Known worldwide for his operettas. Lehar was associated with operatic tenor Richard Tauber who sang in many of his operettas beginning with “Frasquita” (1922). Adolf Hitler enjoyed Lehar’s work and in January 1939 and again on April 30, 1940 Hitler gave Lehar awards/medals in Berlin and Vienna. The Nazi regime used Lehar’s music for propaganda purposes. AMuQs, Lehar has penned a few bars of music from his popular “Frasquita Serenade” on printed music paper measuring appx. 3.5”x9”. He has written “Frasquita Serenade” thus identifying the work. Inscribed, signed in full and dated “Vienna 21/XI/ 1946”. Signatures on items like this signed in full by Franz Lehar are not common.
