One of Her Last letters, Great Content, Mentions Her last Movie
"Yes, I did appear again...before Their Majesties at a Command Performance"
LANDIS, Carole (1919-1948). A buxom beauty and very popular leading lady. She appeared with the Marx Brothers and in a dozen other movies with her last two in England. Committed suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills at the early age of 29. It is said she was jilted by actor Rex Harrison. Very uncommon typed letter signed, on her name imprinted stationery, March 19, 1948. In part: “...No, I didn’t stop in New York on my return but flew straight here from England. I loved England and working there is really stimulating. The industry and its approach to films are so mature and adult. Yes, I did appear again - second time now - before Their Majesties at a Command Performance. They were very charming to me. As for the New look, oh yes...very much so. Love it. You see a great deal of it in London and Paris and it has really taken hold. Am to do another picture for Eagle Lion now but don’t know yet what it will be. Noose will be shown over here by the way...Carole Landis”. In very fine condition. The Noose she refers to is The Silk Noose, the movie she just made in England. Landis committed suicide just three and a half months after signing this letter...............SOLD
