KING MICHAEL OF ROMANIA (1921- ). Michael is the great-great grandson of Queen Victoria. He is also a 3rd cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. He is the last King of Romania. His reigned from July 1927 to June 1930 and again from September 1940 through December 1947. After WWII he was given an award by Harry Truman and another by Joseph Stalin. In 1947 the Royal Palace was surrounded by loyal units to the Communists. They threatened to shoot and kill one thousand students if King Michael would not abdicate. He was forced to do so under gun point. In 1948 Michael denounced his abdication as illegal. Typed letter signed, one page, with the imprint of The Standard of the King.
