KETCHAM, Hank (1920-2001). Former cartoonist for Lantz Productions at Universal Studios, created the Dennis the Menace comic strip in 1951. It was distributed in over 1,000 newspapers in 48 countries (in 19 languages) when he stopped drawing it in 1994. He continued to oversee a team of artists and writers who still produce it. Uncommon original Art 1p, 8”x10” sheet of thin drawing paper. This sheet is an original drawing, in pencil, intended for publication in a newspaper for the date of 7-31. The drawing is in two sections. Left side is a sketch of Dennis’s mother on the telephone. The right side is of Dennis speaking to a young boy who is surrounded by a train set. The caption on the bottom left below his mother on the phone states: “Sorry, you must have the wrong number.” On the right-side Dennis states: “She learnt that from me.” Near the top center is written by the artist: “Regards To Jeff- Hank Ketcham.” This was a fabulous gift to a collector and one of a kind.
