KESSELRING, Albert (1885-1960) German General Field Marshall of the Luftwaffe during WWII. One of Hitler’s top defensive strategists during the war. One of only 27 soldiers who was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. His record was marred by the massacre committed by his troops in Italy. He was convicted of War Crimes and sentenced to death. During the time of this letter, Kesselring was involved in the planning of numerous raids in the Battle of Britain. Choice war date autograph letter signed in German, dated 12.8.40. one page translated: “Command post, For the lovely kindness thinking and the warm words of congratulations to my promotion as Field Marshall, I say my heartfelt thanks, Salvation Hitler!
