One of Hitler’s Favorite Composers
KALMAN, Emmerich (1882-1953). Hungarian born of a Jewish family. Composer of Operettas. Along with Lehr, he was a leading composer of what is called “The Silver Age” of Viennese Operetta. Despite his Jewish origin, he was one of Hitler’s favorite composers. Kalman rejected Hitler’s offer to become an “Honorary Arian” therefore he was forced to move to Paris. His best known work is “Countess Maritza” (1926). AMuQS, Kalman has penned one line of music from “Countess Maritza” on printed music paper measuring 3.75”x9”.
