Composer of the Black National Anthem
JOHNSON, J. Rosamond (1873-1954). American composer and singer during the Harlem Renaissance. Wrote the music to the hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” referred to as the Black National Anthem. This was composed for the anniversary of President Lincoln’s birthday in 1900. Very scarce autograph quotation signed, Johnson writes three lines of music and some words to his song “Lazy Moon.” On printed music paper measuring 3.5”x9”. Inscribed, signed, and dated New York City, July 1, 1948. In excellent condition...........$275.00
