JOHNSON, J. Rosamond (1873-1954). African-American composer of noted songs including “lift Every Voice and Sing”. He performed in Negro Spiritual Concerts and sang the role of “Frazier” in Gershwin’s original “Porgy and Bess”. AMuQS, the composer writes three lines of music and some words from his famous song “My Castle On The Nile” on printed music paper measuring 3.5”x9”. Inscribed, signed and dated: “July 1, 1948”.
