President of the Confederacy
DAVIS, Jefferson (1808-1889). Served in the Mexican War and was a U.S. Senator and Secretary of War before he was elected President of the Confederate states in 1861. He was imprisoned for two years after the war, but never brought to trial. He returned to Mississippi and never asked to have his citizenship restored. Fine, bold signature on a slip adding in his hand “U.S.S.”. Excellent example for framing................SOLD
