One of the Founders of the City of Tel-Aviv
JAFFE, Bezalel (1868-1925). Zionist leader in Russia and Erez Israel. Under his directorship (1910-25) he was instrumental in extending the area of Tel-Aviv and turning it into a city. Along with Dizengoff, he is one of the founders of the City of Tel-Aviv. He became a member of the towns first governing committee. Member of the Va’ad Le’ummi. In 1912 he introduced the first modern irrigation into the Petah Tikvah. He served as President of the Jaffa Tel-Aviv Jewish Committee.
