Commanded Jewish Defense Forces During The Arab Riots in 1920
JABOTINSKY, Vladimir (1880-1940). Zionist leader, political patriot, writer, orator, devoted his whole life to advance the Jewish cause. During WWI he campaigned for a Jewish military unit to fight for the liberation of Palestine. Jabotinsky served as an officer and fought in Palestine. He commanded the Jewish Defense Forces during the Arab riots in 1920. He was arrested, tried and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. He was released after a few weeks and participated in the 1920 Zionist Congress. He held a strong stance that a Jewish State be organized. He founded his own New Zionist Organization. During February 1940 he came to the United States seeking support, however he suffered a heart attack and died. In 1964, the State of Israel reinterred Jabotinsky and his wife on Mt. Herzl. Envelope hand addressed by Jabotinsky to a person in Melbourne, Australia. Postmarked London, 6 Nov. 1934. On the verso of the flap of the envelope, Jabotinsky has signed his name and added his return address in Paris.
