The First Miss World (1911)

HYDE, Alice (1894-1995). Beauty Queen.  She was the first Miss Pictures which became Miss World.  She as a contemporary of Charlie Chaplin and Tyrone Power. She entered the contest under the stage name of Lavender Lee. She won the inaugural event in London in 1911 at the age of seventeen. She became a household name and was in a few movies.  She had to prove her worth at singing, dancing, horse riding, acting, swimming and even rowing.  The Broadwest Picture Company was searching for a “English Mary Pickford” (1911) and from 8,000 entrants Alice was chosen to star in the Broadwest film, “In The Gloaming.”  Charlie Chaplin brought her chocolates and asked her to go to America.  Newspaper article from 1992 which illustrates a  portrait of Hyde and a portrait of her in 1911. Very boldly signed with a two-word sentiment: “yours truly Lavender Lee.”  An exceedingly rare autograph and this is possibly one of a kind, obtained in person.  Together with a full-page newspaper article on her from January 17, 1991. In fine condition........
